Religious Education Assistant & Youth Coordinator

We are seeking a Religious Education Assistant/Youth Coordinator who is enthusiastic, organized, and detail-oriented to enhance the robust Religious Education program at UUCR. We seek a strong candidate with experience working collaboratively with colleagues, as well as children and volunteers of all ages, and a desire to connect families with our vibrant community at UUCR. Strong candidates will have excellent communication, organization, and outreach skills, as well as a deep understanding of MS Office Suite, Google Workspace, and social media platforms. Flexibility, reliability, friendliness, and the ability to work on a team are key to the role. A liberal religious perspective is essential in our ministry to children and youth. Knowledge and experience of Unitarian Universalism is a plus. This position is based out of UUCR in Rockville, MD, with flexible hours and opportunities for telework.

  • Strong capabilities with MS Office Suite, Google and various social media applications

General Schedule
This is a part-time position with 20 hours/week. Working from home may be negotiated for many work hours, with at least 5 office hours per week at the UUCR Religious Education office, and 3 Sunday mornings per month on site. Occasional evening and Saturday hours may be required.
$20.00 per hour, Personal Time Off, access to health and retirement benefits.

Technology & Communications Assistant

Our congregation’s Technology & Communications Assistant will support the virtual ministry of UUCR by working with our nurturing and supportive staff to make the congregation’s mission real in the world by working toward our shared goals of spiritual development, spiritual practice, and justice-making. 
The Technology & Communications Assistant may work off-site/remotely for the foreseeable future, to include attending weekly staff meeting, unless it is necessary to be on-site to complete a task. Worship support will require Sunday hours; other meetings will require evening or Saturday hours.

Overall Job Responsibilities
  1. Technical support for major online activities of the congregation (virtual services, community meetings, website maintenance, social media) as well as database maintenance.
  2. Communications support including the congregation’s social media presence, newsletters, and marketing media.

Building Sexton

UUCR is looking for a part time Building Sexton for every Sunday and also for occasional rental events.  This is a weekly, 8 hour Sunday position, from 7:30 am until approximately 3:30 pm providing facilities support for our Sunday programs.  Additional working hours are available by providing facility support for renters and rental events on a periodic, as needed basis for additional compensation.

Primary Job Duties

  • Sunday Building Sexton:  opens and closes the church for worship and activities each Sunday, making sure walkways to the church are clear, heat/AC is turned on, doors are open, and rooms are set.  Cleans, removes trash, and restocks facilities between and after services.   Assist with AV & sound system set-up and connectivity.  Minor maintenance as needed (such as bulb replacements, plumbing clogs).  Also cleans up and re-sets tables and chairs in support of Sunday afternoon and evening events. General clean-up and maintenance of walkways, parking area, entrances.  Adjust light timers seasonally and for evening events.

  • Rental Building Sexton:  as necessary, opens and closes the church for rental events, making sure doors are unlocked, heat/AC is turned on, and bathrooms are stocked.  Greets renters and orients them to the facility.  Is present and available to respond to requests before and during the event.  This is primarily evening and weekend work, and is in addition to the standard 8 hours per week.
